Japanese corporate registry transcripts will now be able to keep the address of the representative director private.

From the perspective of personal information protection, the Japanese Ministry of Justice will, starting in October 2024, allow the address of the representative director to be undisclosed at the time of company registration.

Please note that if measures are taken to hide the address of the representative director, it might become difficult to verify the address of the company representative through a certificate of registered matters. This may cause inconveniences when obtaining loans from financial institutions or increase the necessary documents (such as the company’s seal registration certificate) for real estate transactions, among other potential obstacles. Therefore, before applying for the measure to hide the address of the representative director, we ask you to carefully and thoroughly consider these possible effects.

Even if measures are taken to hide the address of the representative director, the obligation to register as stipulated by the Companies Act (Law No. 86 of 2005) is not exempted. Therefore, if there are changes to the address of the representative director, it is necessary to apply for registration of such changes
